In 1919 just after the war the Boll Weevil destroyed the entire cotton crop in Coffee County Alabama. Heavily in debt, the farmers planted cotton again next year as one farmer H. M. Sessions planted a small plot of peanuts. The cotton was destroyed again, but Mr Sessions plot of peanuts did excellent. With the whole of the county on the edge of disaster economically they sold great grandma’s silver and all planted peanuts. They made so much money it paid for all the loses over the past two years and Coffee County became the Peanut capital of world. Later a monument was erected in Enterprise Alabama of a Boll Weevil As a tribute to how something disastrous can be a catalyst for a greater good.
Your Boll Weevil monument is purity. Down the road just like the people of Enterprise you’ll look back and say thank you that something forced you to change. When it did you prospered, in your relationships and your finances, you got your mind back, your family back, your not all amped up any more, your sex life is great, you’re at peace and sleep like a baby. That deserves a monument because the whole thing was a grace disguised.
