As we approach our 8th year of meeting on Monday nights I find myself grateful, and I’m not alone. Regularly someone thanks me for the group and it’s good to hear. I love Monday nights, I love everything about it from top to bottom, my friends are there, they love me, and I love them back. I usually have trouble sleeping when I get home because I’m so excited about what just happened. Someone’s life was changed, mine was too.
Sexual purity is this minor bump that when crossed open’s up a whole new world of possibilities and all the other areas of our lives begin to develop. Monday night is about sexual purity and also it has so little to do with it. It’s just the starting point.
It’s so easy to talk to the men in the room, it flows natural, it’s giggly and joyful, it’s painful, and at the same time deeply intimate. It’s fearless, shameless, it’s confident. It’s everything I hoped church would be and we’re living it, it’s happening, to us. It’s everything I ever wanted in a community, a team, a family, and more. It’s the grand Christian adventure, it rugged, it’s dangerous, it’s tender, it’s firm, and carries with it the sweet peace of Jesus.
We have a code and yet it’s undefined, but every man in the room knows what it is. It can’t be captured perfectly in words, only in our actions. There is a grace upon our lives as we break ground, break bread, and break bondage. When we’re in the room, or outside of the room with men in the room we are the best us we have. Beautiful things come out of our mouths, and courageous action flows from our hearts. We are agents of change, we are healed, and help heal others. Our mind is at peace, we are full of love, the fruit of confession and close relationship.
I am grateful, very grateful. We have some of the best leaders, and speakers that we have ever had hands down. Not a weak small group leader in the room. But we didn’t get there alone, many great men no longer with us have sowed heavily in the room to make us what we are today. Greame Morris, Colt Fortenberry, Jeremy Riddle, Jason Valloton, Tom Mchugh, Danny Martinez, Andy Flaherty, Mark Lex, and Brian Pratt. God brought them all at the right time, just the right time. It’s been perfect. If you see them, thank them. What we have is beautiful, the grace of God is upon us, we have a rich history, and we are just getting started.
