Colt Fortenberry spoke last Monday at group and it was some of the best preaching I have ever heard. It was so good I didn’t take notes because I didn’t want to miss anything,…I just wanted to soak up the atmosphere of what was being said. Luckily someone just emailed me their notes from Colts talk,…so here they are.
The spiritual self vs the physical self: The spiritual and the physical are one as well as separate. When your body is horny your spirit is horny too. The only problem is we’ve trained ourselves to use sex for a million different reasons. We have trained ourselves to answer every need with sex. The reason is rarely because of your so called “sex drive”. When our body feels horny our spirit is horny too, but not always for sex. A lot of times it’s for true intimacy with God or another person, for acceptance, or even maybe encouragement. The thing is we can’t manage our sexuality with just our body, we need to understand what is happening with our spiritual part as well.
On another note. Sex always binds you to something.
For reference 1 Corinthians 6:15-17 “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.”
Our sexuality is to be 100% directed at our wife and if we do not have a wife then 100% directed at preparing yourself and finding a wife. So if sex binds you to something what does masturbating to porn bind you to? Or how about for those guys who masturbate without fantasizing sexually? What does masturbating to a tree bind your too or better yet, what does masturbating to nothing bind you to? That’s right…NOTHING! And for the married guys. So we justify our masturbation because we masturbate fantasizing about our wives. Well the question is.. does she always talk to you that way in real life? Does she ever talk to you that way? Does she always like that position? So it’s really not your wife you’re fantasizing about is it? Again we’re binding ourselves to a fantasy.
Now let’s look at Jesus. Can you picture Jesus going out behind the stable and masturbating real quick? Well if you can then you must see the Father doing that Too, because Jesus only did what he saw his Father doing. I don’t think the Father told Jesus, “Son,.. it’s ok to masturbate just don’t think about Mary Magdalene.”
We know Jesus didn’t masturbate, because we masturbate when we are in pain. Why? It’s a pain killer. What did Jesus do on the cross? Well, if he was a regular masturbator he would’ve wanted to masturbate to subside his pain, but since he was nailed up at the moment wouldn’t you think he would gladly accept another form of pain killer? But he didn’t, he refused the sponge that had the pain killer in it when the pain was the greatest. This definitely doesn’t fit the description of a sex addict or regular masturbator. Ok so here we have it “Sweat blood or Masturbate” and “Pain killer in a sponge,.. or pain”.
Many of us either believe, or did believe that getting a wife will solve our sex problem. It’s like having a monster in the basement. for years it’s been calm because whenever it starts to come up the stairs and get violent we grab a steak (masterbation) and feed it to it. We buy ourselves some more time. The only problem is we keep feeding it so it keeps getting bigger and hungrier and more destructive. So what do we do when we get married? well we think…I know what I’ll do,.. and the Monster begins to make some noise and is starting up the stairs so we throw our wife to the monster in hopes that it will somehow tame the beast. Instead things just get worse because we just hurt the closest person to us with the monster we created.
We need to get an understanding of what is at stake and what is really going on between our physical self and spiritual self.
