A million plus Israelites were wandering around in the desert moving from a people of slaves to a nation of warriors. It was the process of sanctification before they entered the promised land. Following a victory over the Canaanites in Numbers 21: 1-9 they began to complain that this whole process/journey was taking to long and the food completely sucked. “Can’t we just be there already? and can’t You make it more enjoyable along the way?” So…you know the story. God drops in some snakes, people die, then they humble down and and ask for help and stop complaining. With a change of heart…… God offers a remedy and takes the very thing that was killing them and said “look at it, and you will be healed.”
Likewise, we must look at the thing that was trying to kill us to be healed. He didn’t say run from it. Joseph tried that and he lost his job and went to prison. He said “look at it and live.”
Jesus as the model for purity did just that. In being offered all the sex the world had to offer He didn’t run but told the devil to. He was able to look it and reject it because He knew who He was, who His Father was, where He was going, and what He was going to do. He looked it in the eye and said “I’m good” and from temptation He moved into relationship. He used His prophetic gifting to know who to be in relationship with and what it was going to look like, and with those men, He changed the world.
