I make a lot of lists, my last blog was a list, its what I do. I write a to do list every day. We have a grocery list on the fridge, I have randomly scattered and some very organized lists of Goals, dreams, travel plans, summer to do’s, people, repairs, numbers, inventory, dates, balance sheets, files, blogs, addresses, books I’ve read/books I’m going to read, and recently I have been writing down past and current successes, encouragement I have received, and trauma that still hurts. I have a seriously funny list of words I never want hear again (I add to it regularly, they’re all church words). I have a discipline list I cross off every morning with the just basics of scripture, prayer, chores, worship, and exercise. It feels good to see what I am doing, what I plan to do. It feels good even in the smallest way to accomplish things, to achieve a goal, to keep moving forward.
When making tough decisions I make plus and minus lists. When things wont get out of my head that I don’t want in my head I make a list out of it. I’m visual, it helps to see it. In business I like to see what is going out, what is coming in, how much, and when. Do I need to do anything? If yes, I put it on the daily list in priority of importance and it feels good to cross it off knowing that I have done all I can do.
When I explain things to people I often draw while I talk. I make maps, write down tips, what to do, what not to do, where to go, what to avoid. i have scriptures on my fridge, stuck on my monitor, and over the toilet. I regularly read my bible through all the way in a year and have a list of the books I’ve finished. I have lists of dreams and goals that I keep like time capsules. It’s fun to read them years later. Some I have done, some I have lost my desire to do, some look really stupid with a little more wisdom under my belt, and some I have revised.
Life is a list and we’re walking it out, living it, doing it, getting it done. God has lists, the 10 commandments, genealogies, and Levitical law. Jesus had lists of his disciples, the you’re blessed list on the sermon the mount, and the really messed up when your religious list.
The Airborne Rangers say “prior proper preparation prevents piss poor performance.”Churchill said “he who fails to plan, plans to fail.” I really like what Ike said “you gotta have well thought out and detailed battle plan even though the minute the fighting starts you throw it all out the window.” Lists are discipline, it’s getting what is in your head out of your head and giving it direction.
Our success is up to us. The men around you are essential to that but in the end its up to you. Like Santa, make a list, and check it twice. Come up with some to do’s for yourself that will help you stay pure. I really want to write a big long list for you….but it’s better it comes from you….Ok, I can’t help it. I’ll give you the 17 commandments of sexual purity and you guys can add to them in the comments and see if we can make it to a 100.

Here’s some homework for you: Make a list of old friends that you haven’t talked to in a long time and call them all. Make a list of all the people who have helped you and thank them. Make a list of ways to love your wife better and do it. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses. Pat yourself on the back on the strengths, and steadily work on your weaknesses. Make a list of people you have hurt and make amends. Make a list of your favorite songs, ice cream, places, people, and cool things that God has done. Make a list, check it twice. Nice.
