If you read this blog but do not attend our Monday night meeting we would like to invite you. Come and feel the atmosphere and get a taste of what we are doing, you’ll love it. It’s a place of healing, feeling, and articulating. We’re having church, church for men. From the worship to testimonies, the speakers, and the games we play, it’s beautiful, you can feel God.
As fantastic as it is, let me tell you the secret of what really works. What really get’s men better, what will get you better. Wait for it………….it’s relationship. They have hurt you, but ironically it is relationships that will heal you. As good as our first hour of meeting is, what really works, what you really need, what I really need is the small group. It’s in the small group that you get to fulfill the biblical mandate of 1 John 1 that says “if we walk in the light as He is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ, his son, purifies us from all sin.” It’s in the small group that you get to live out James 5 that says “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
Our small groups are 7 men, one of which is a leader. You get 5 minutes to say briefly how did with your penis this week, and how your homework from last week went. From there, the rest of the time, at least four plus minutes worth is you digging down as deep as you can inside yourself and being as honest as you know how. Your time is letting other men know, maybe for the first time who you are, it’s you, getting naked and becoming known. As you share, you learn to talk, you learn to feel, and in the hugs and prayer after group you learn to touch. A great sign that you are doing it all right is that you learn to cry. The emotional constipation breaks free into the best dump of your life and everybody in the group looks at it sitting there in the toilet and cheers. Just like a little kid who is moving on from diapers and then we flush the toilet and it’s gone.
What you get from group is what you need. It’s that true fellowship that you get from walking and living in the light. Light brings relationship, and it’s relationship that you need to heal. What you get from group is the healing that comes from the confession of sin. You spill in a place with out judgement, with out advice, with out bible verse band-aids, with out religious antidotes, and you get better instantly. What you get from the group is that healing prayer that comes from others that have been there. They impart hope and have a clear understanding of where you are and pray into where God is taking you. They pray into you and over you so you can feel the love of Jesus and you learn to receive.
Get in a group. Where ever you are at, find one, create one, build one, and make it a lifestyle. It’s the group that will get you better, it’s the group that works, it’s the relationships that you need, the friendships that heal, and in that atmosphere it’s Jesus Christ crucified that will transform you from the inside out, forever changed into the man you were created to be.
